Gabe Spence earned his Senior Tracker Certification at the recent Trailing Specialist Evaluation in western Washington. His tracking skills were assessed by following a black bear through extremely challenging substrate conditions and mixed in with other bear activity for over eight hours of being on point as lead tracker. Gabe started tracking in the late 1990’s, and he attended his first CyberTracker Evaluation in 2009. His current professional role as a wolf Biologist for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife began in 2012, and in that time completed a Master’s degree from Washington State University studying wolf predation. His work as a biologist contributes to WDFW’s wolf conservation, management, and research. The majority of his work involves locating wolves, capturing them with foothold traps, collaring animals, documenting reproduction, counting individual wolves in each pack, and confirming newly established packs, which incorporates and requires the use of his highly refined and specialized tracking skills. Tracker Certification North America and CyberTracker are honored to have Gabe as a part of our team and extremely pleased to recognize his years of tracking experience through his Senior Tracker Certification. Brian McConnell and Preston Taylor administered the Specialist Trailing Evaluation.
